KEEPING SAFE

It’s a wipeout, the waves crash down on you as you are dumped and the ocean covers you over…. you are pinned on the ocean floor without any chance of breath.  Almost every surfer has lived through this experience at least once.  The sheer physical nature of waves and the interaction which a surfer has with them, means that this is inevitable for almost every surfer.  The struggle is to get to the surface and grab a breath before the next wave crashes down on you.  It’s a scary moment.and the trick is to stay composed – even the pros struggle with this at times!

Kurt Krack teaches a surf survival course with is focused around holding your breath and most importantly keeping your composure.  Six Oakley surfers participated in one of Krack’s courses to better prepare themselves for the life threatening situations with go hand in hand with competitive surfing and free surfing the big waves such as Teahupo’o, Jaws, The Right and many others.

As you will see in the video, the course taught and helped surfers to be able to hold their breath for up to 5 minutes – this could be a life saver for you.
