Biggest, Gnarliest Teahupo’o Ever

SLATER ‘TERRIFIED FOR OTHER PEOPLE’S LIVES’

Tahitian issued a Code Red warning banning boats and watercraft from the surrounding seas.  Aug 27th 2011 in the midst of the Billabong Pro saw history being made when the Pro surfers took on some of the most nightmarish waves which have ever been seen at Teahupo’o and surfed in Tahiti.

The swell was immense and the French Navy issued a double code red.  Kelly Slater summed the condition up perfectly

“witnessing this was a draining feeling being terrified for other people’s lives all day long, it’s life or death. Letting go of that rope one time can change your life and not many people will ever experience that in their life.”
