Big Wave Rider – Felicity Palmateer

NEVER THOUGHT SHE WOULD ENTER THE RECORD BOOKS IN THIS WAY!

Felicity thought she had done lots of prep, riding and getting to know Cow Bombie intimately in all weather types.  But, the preparation did not prepare her for the 30 foot monster waves which she encountered in her challenge.

Palmateer, a 23 year old Billabong athlete who hails from Western Australia, was towed into the waves by a jet ski, but had a series of 3 giant setS dump on her head while waiting for the next big set of waves as she lost focus and accidentally strayed into the impact zone.  She began to think:

‘you’re crazy, you’re stupid,”

“And then I had a couple people tell me ‘I don’t know if you’re going to be able to survive’. “Guys were looking at me like ‘this chick is gonna die’.

Felicity, who enjoys modelling as well as surfing, recalls the wave sounded like a bomb going off and looking back, she loved the experience, but was glad she survived!  The challenge over and won, she had surfed four giant waves including the 30 foot mammoth wave which she had set out to achieve.  A last minute decision which has earned her a place in the record books and an amazing adrenaline rush together with new rag doll experience in the foam at the end!
