HIGHEST IN 20 YEARS
The swell in Puerto Escondido reached awesome heights on May 3rd, 2015. The huge waves had travelled all the way from Nepal, following the earth quake and were pounding on the beaches at Puerto Encondido.
The swell produced by the earthquake was the biggest in 20 years and the surfers made the most of the huge swell.
Mark Healey found himself right in the middle of one of the biggest days for Puerto Escondido only one day after the Big Wave Awards. Naturally, he headed out into the waves and soon found himself slap bang in the middle of the biggest waves of the day and decade. He had to join in the surfing carnage which the mammoth swell was causing. He told Stab Magazine
“Today was honestly twice as big as the biggest I’ve ever seen it here, The energy and the water moving was just… so beyond anything I’ve ever seen here. Everything else pales in comparison.”
Local big wave surfer Coco Nogales, commented this was the heaviest surfer Mexico had seen for 20 years.
