CRAZY SKIPPER STEERS WILD RIDE
Sixteen feet waves did not deter the crazy Aussie Ian Sloan and his crew, who were determined to take the 14m catamaran into harbor by going over treacherous waves and sand bar into Southport Seaway. There was a safer alternative, but it would have taken two days to detour sailing north to Brisbane and then south again in quieter waters. But the challenge was there – the team waited overnight before deciding the take on the tumultuous waves and head for harbor.
Whale watching tours had been cancelled due to the sea swell – see the photos below for the scene presented to the crew before their attempt.
